2 of our 4 new ducklings...
Sunday morning harvest...
Saturday in the park...I haven't posted in a couple of weeks and these are my excuses why(see photo's above)
not that this are by any means valid excuses, I have just been busy with our new residents the ducklings...busy in the garden (our harvest included red leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, turnips, spinach, onions and peas)...and spending time with the kids and grands as much as possible.
I met up with Justin, Jen and Elizabeth at Sharon Woods park last Saturday. We enjoyed a picnic lunch, some playtime on the playground, a stroll through the park and feeding the geese. Elizabeth has as much energy as an almost 2 year old could possible have and crashes just as quickly! By the time we were ready to leave she could barely keep her eyes open, but she had a really good time running around and acting just as a little one should.
We have also gained a few new residents to Maggie's Farm, we now have the 4 new ducklings, 5 new guineas (we were actually able to hatch them from our resident guineas this year, we just used the services of one of the broody hens) and I have added 4 new breeds to the chickens. These new hens should provide me with blue, dark brown and medium brown eggs. I think they will sell quite well. We have had a good amount of success in our egg sales, almost all from Ray's workplace. I still have my 1 regular customer at work but Ray just has to take the eggs in and they sell right away. We are going to try and sell some surplus produce at the Farmers Market this Saturday, mostly leaf lettuce and Swiss Chard but I might throw in some peas, which are getting out of hand!
Happy summer to everyone! Get out and enjoy as much as you can and if anyone wants to try a taste of the hobby farm life (hoeing, mulching, egg gathering, weeding, harvesting, etc..etc...etc..) you know where to find us!
