From the garden to the market...with a little help from Xander! The top 2 pictures were taken 7/16 of myself in the corn and Ray in the tomato jungle. The bottom 2 pictures are our attempt at selling. Ray and I have an over abundance of produce at times, so we decided to take some to the farmers market in Mount Vernon and try to sell. A couple of weeks ago Ray tried this with just a cooler and chair, he did not fair very well since no one really trusts a guy just sitting there with a cooler. So I decided to try a bit more approachable setting (not many can resist a woman in a cowgirl hat with a baby on a quilt behind her!) We almost sold out in 2 hours. Our items included zucchini, swiss chard, bell peppers, hot peppers and cucumbers. Xander was on hand for the cutie pie factor, complete with his baby sized bell pepper, and he was such a good baby throughout. We are going to try this as long as the weather, produce and sales hold out.
In other farm news, our ducks are quacken along, getting big and making their presence known! The other newbies are growing and the broiler hens days are really numbered now. They are getting quite plump~Ray is visualizing delicious chicken dinners soon! We have had 3 new guinea babies hatch and 8 peeps! I do believe there are a few crazy hens that will be joining the broilers in their date with destiny!
Hope all are enjoying the sizzlen' hot summer days. Get out to your local farmers market if you can. Nothing can beat fresh produce on a hot summer day!
