Chicks in the snow

I thought I would post a few pictures of our girls frolicking in the snow. The chickens and ducks have been doing well and the chickens are even producing a few eggs for us every now and again.

this is what I am greeted with every time I step outside, they think I am going to bring some scratch, which most of the time they are correct. There is usually a mob scene with me trying to carry a feed bucket and water bucket without stepping on any toes...quite an accomplishment for a non-athlete such as myself.

We also have some nosy chickens...maybe this one is the scout to alert all of the others when the human is leaving the house, or she is just too nosy. This usually drives the cats crazy for a bit until they realize they are not going to be able to catch this one, then they go back to doing what they do best...sleeping.

Finally we have our ducks on the run. I do believe they are very cold hard with the exception of their feet. They tend to stand on one leg with the other one tucked inside their down, then they switch sides. Another trick for them is to just lay down quickly, the 1st time I saw this I thought maybe one of the local crazy hunters had mistaken my little duck for a deer, stranger things have been know to happen.

All in all we are surviving the winter as best we can, humans and feathered friends alike.
