The summer solstice has passed. This event is bittersweet for me. On the bitter side: I know that this starts the slow trek towards shorter days, colder temps, snow, ice, sleet etc, etc, etc. However, now is not the time to think on those things so I'm going to concentrate all of my attentions on the sweet side: we are now entering that most anticipated time of year where the liven' is easy (as the late, great Janis Joplin sang about oh so many years ago) namely...Summertime! Delicious meals with straight from the garden ingredients, sunny days and warm nights, swimming, biking, gardening in the warm earth with the sun on my shoulders...the list goes on and on.
The garden is going like gangbusters. The corn is almost knee high (right on track for the 4th of July measurement) we have tomatoes on the vine, some peppers just starting and the peas are coming right along. Ray started a new way of planting the potatoes and they are really coming on, too. The garlic scapes have been harvested and we've been able to pick a few onions too.
All in all, the Spring season treated us well and we are anticipating something great from Summer!
I encourage all of you to get outside, feel the sun on your shoulders, the fresh breeze in your hair and the warm earth beneath your feet...let the Summer time help you relax and rejuvenate your outlook on life.
