Day 2-This was going to be our biggest day in Chicago. 1st stop was the Field Museum where we were introduced to Sue (she is the most complete reconstruction of a T-Rex fossil in the world). This was something Elizabeth was very excited to share with us. The Field Museum also has a display of the Chicago World Fair which was very interesting.
From there we went to the Shedd's Aquarium. We saw all manner of cool things here; jelly fish, sea horses, sea dragons, belugas whales and dolphins to name a few. We spent the remainder of the afternoon in Shedd's and had a great time. We walked so much that day!
That evening we went in search of deep dish pizza. We found Lou Malnati's just down the street from our hotel so we headed out again. We had a bit of a wait to get in (this would be 7pm on a Tuesday!) but the pizza was worth the wait. We then went back to the hotel and...collapsed!
Day 3- We had Elizabeth for half the day on this day so we decided to head out in the morning to find The Billy Goat Tavern. We were looking for breakfast and Ray really wanted to find this place (there is a Cubs curse associated, something about the original owner not being allowed to bring his goat into Wrigley field!). We had to really look for this place since it was on the lower level of the street but we finally found it. This is the place that was used in the SNL parody "Cheezborger, Cheezborger" and since we were there for breakfast it was more like "breakfast sandwich, no french toast". From there we headed to Grant park and the big fountain. We strolled around a bit until the light sprinkle turned into a steady rain. We found a coffee shop and had a snack, then headed back to the hotel for the kid exchange.
Once Elizabeth was delivered safe and sound to her momma and goodbyes were said all around Ray and I decided to see what kind of adult activities we could find. I had tickets to the Chicago Art Museum so Ray and I headed over there for a bit. The museum is one that I would like to explore more in depth (perhaps on the next visit) There also happened to be Buddy Guys Legends bar right down the street (imagine that) so we spent the evening eating good food, sipping a beverage of choice and listening to some good blues. We headed home the next day exhausted but with great memories of our 1st trip to Chicago. We will definitely make it back soon!
