Corn queens

Hi all,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer and really enjoying the bounty of fresh veggies and fruits available now. We are trying to get the most out of our time at home sitting outside in the evenings into the wee hours (or our usual bedtime 9pm:) and harvesting our own veggies. We have had a pretty good time with the veggie garden this year and most of our produce has been successful.
The pictures here are of our corn queens. Kaylyn and Kiryn are standing in front of a corn field we came across while picking blueberries a few weeks ago. Elizabeth is in front of our attempt at sweetcorn. The plant is rather small but we did get a few ears of corn that was surprisingly quite good, and our corn queens are just beautiful!
We have had success in the chicken area as well. The peeps born to the 2 game hens are thriving and we have only lost 1 so far. I am hoping again for hens! The older peeps are no longer peeps but full grown chickens, just about, and should be laying eggs soon. We found a farmer that butchers chickens for a reasonable price so I have had 3 surplus roosters butchered. They look like cornish game hens in size. Ray will have to give a report on the taste!
The babies are all doing well and the newest, Xander, is growing and getting out of the newborn stage. We have planned a trip to the zoo this Sunday with all 4 grands and their parents so that should be an adventure. I will post pics from that trip Sunday.
Enjoy the remaider of summer and look forward to the cool and crisp days of fall ahead.
Love to all
